SPECIAL NOTES FOR THE KANATA  PACK

Thank you also to those that participated in the St. George’s Day service. The cubs did a great job reading, ushering, flag bearing and candle lighting, and were the most well behaved group that Akela has ever seen in the 11th’s history!

Thanks to all parents who brought snacks. They were Yummy! Your efforts were very much appreciated.

TONIGHT’S MEETING

Eric and Nivan were invested as Sixer and Second, following Thomas’s departure to Scouts.

Zachery was presented with his First Place Trophy for winning the Skeena Area Kub Kar Race Finals. Once again, congratulations, Zachery! We are all very proud of you.

We also worked on our knot tying skills with the reef knot, the bowline, and the boat knot. Each Cub earned a “Tied up in Knots”  crest.

We once again read from the original Jungle book by Rudyard Kipling.

DON’T FORGET WE HAVE A WEB SITE: www2.citytel.net/scouts   - CHECK IT OUT!

VERY IMPORTANT – Please drop off your cub at the gym door at Kanata school.    Also, we remind parents to pick up their child at the gym door as the leaders cannot release the child without the parent or guardian. If you cannot due to a disability – please see Akela to make arrangements with another leader.

SUPER PARENTS!

Thank You Diane

Thank you so much, Diane Pye for working so hard to organize the bake sale, and make it such a success. All of us leaders really appreciate the effort you put in. Cubs would not be nearly as good a program if we didn't people like you involved. Three cheers for Diane!

Thank you Andrew, Rikki and Thomas!

Thank you Andrew Schaeffer (and Cody and Jesse) for taking on such a mammoth load of phonebook deliveries! Andrew, Jesse and Cody delivered over 800 books this year. Also taking on a huge load was our own Rikki and Thomas, who did over 800books. Akela, Raksha, Ben and Eric have done over 850 so far.

SUPER LEADER!

Thank you Raksha

Raksha must be recognized for all of her efforts this year. She singlehandedly has taken on the responsibility of registration, the Scout Popcorn Fundraiser, and the Citywest phonebook fundraiser.

Thank you, Raksha - you have proven once again why you are so deserving of the medals for service you have been awarded with this year. (see below)

CLIMATE CHANGE CHALLENGE CREST

PROUD RECIPIENTS AS OF APRIL 2008 ARE:

NATHAN

THOMAS

AUSTIN

BRENDAN

ERIC C.

BEN

CONGRATULATIONS, GUYS!

3 of the 5 badges each cub chooses to earn for this year should be 3 of the 5 required to earn the Scouts Canada "Climate Change Challenge" crest. (click on the link for details on the badges required), We will all be working on this together as a pack, starting with activities at the Wed. Nov. 7th meeting, where he cubs will begin to do the "Energy Sleuth Game" (also called an energy audit) which can be found at: http://www.scouts.ca/media//documents/energy_sleuthCub.pdf

After completing the  "Energy Sleuth Game" (your cub will need some help from you with details like the square footage of your house), you can do the "Energy Sleuth Calculator" on-line, if you have access to a computer, and you are OK with your cub using it with you. If not, it's OK. You can just return your completed "Energy Sleuth Game" form to Akela, and he will do it for you.  When we're finished, we will all be getting this crest, which can go on your cub blanket.

DUES

Please remember that you need to bring $2.00 for dues to every meeting. You can pay in advance if you like, for as many weeks as you want.

Kanata Cub Leaders Presented With Awards

At our October 17th meeting, Skeena Deputy Commissioner Alice Veen Sexton, in true scouting spirit,  braved a good old north coast rain storm to drive in the dark from Terrace to Prince Rupert, to present some of our leaders with scouting awards.

Melanie Basso a.k.a. "Tic-Tac" with Beavers from 2001 to 2005 , and Akela with Cubs from 2005 to 2007 (Shown here with Deputy Commissioner Alice Veen Sexton) Received the Medal for Good Service to Scouting. Melanie worked extremely hard as a leader. She is one of the most organized people to ever be involved with scouting in Prince Rupert, and really put on awesome programs and events year after year - the most memorable being the Kamp Kikatee she hosted in 2006. everyone still raves about that great camp. Thank you so much for all of your hard work and dedication for so many years Melanie! Your work with scouting will always be remembered, and your shoes will be very difficult to fill.

Chantal Cornwall, a.k.a "Ringtail" with Beavers from 2002 to 2006, and Raksha with Cubs from 2006 to present, was awarded the Medal for Good Service to Scouting, as well as the Commemorative Centennial Medal - one of only 11 presented in the Skeena area. (Alice is also a recipient of this medal! ) Congratulations Raksha - Your hard work and dedication to scouting have not gone unnoticed throughout the Skeena Area and the entire province. You are an inspiration to us all.
